Therapies > Reflexology for Preconception, Pregnancy and Post Natal Care

Reflexology
Reflexology is a useful therapy that can help to create the correct internal environment in the body. We can help you and your partner by offering an indivudally tailored treatment plan that will offer a range of health benefits.

Throughout the pregnancy Reflexology is considered a safe a natural way to relieve common symptoms such as morning sickness, oedema, backache and constipation. Although it is generally avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy, whilst the body adapts to the many physical and emotional changes that take place.

"Research has shown that women who have regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy have far shorter labours than those who don't" (The Association of Reflexologists)

Preconception
The aim is to create a successful holistic treatment plan, which can be used to help increase your chances of conceiving. Reflexology works by balancing the hormones, assisting ovulation. There is a close link between many parts of the hormonal system, if one part is not working as it should, other parts may also be affected.

Together we will look at different aspects of your lifestyle including nutrition, vitamins, sleep patterns, eating habits and exercise in order to give you every possible chance of conceiving your baby in the healthiest possible environment.

It can take some couples between 2-3 years to conceive naturally, the important thing is to remain positive and not get stressed!

The first step to finding out when you are at your most fertile is to work out when ovulation occurs. This happens during the middle of your monthly cycle, but doesn't necessarily occur every month. Signs of ovulation include: Sticky mucous, slight changes in body temperature, Pin prick like pain in the abdomen. Visit: Womens Health to find out more...

After your pregnancy, its important to look at re-balancing the hormones levels in the body, helping to avoid conditions such as post-natal depression. As well as this, much research has shown that reflexology is excellent for maintaining or increasing milk supply as well as helping with general relaxation and stress relief!

What to expect from during Treatment
Your first appointment begins with a full consultation to establish your current state of health, medical history and presenting condition. During the treatment most people often feel extremely calm and relaxed and drift off into a light sleep. Sessions end with a discussion of sensitive areas found on the feet and finding out why this could be. Aftercare and advice will also be given.

Is Reflexology painful? No, however areas of sensitivity may be felt where there is an imbalance in the body, a current physical problem, a weak area or a passing state of stress.

How often will I need treatment? A one off session will be beneficial, particularly when stressed, but a course of treatments is generally recommended where there is a specific underlying condition. The frequency of treatment depends very much on each individual, how readily they respond, general health, age and how long standing the condition is.

When should I avoid treatment? Reflexology is not advisable during the first 3 months of pregnancy, if you have a fever, if you have athletes foot or any type infectious condition such as cold or flu.
